CHILDREN DISORDERS

An estimated 1 in 10 children and adolescents in the United States suffers from a mental illness severe enough to cause some level of impairment.[3] Fewer than one in five of these ailing children receives treatment.[3] Studies suggest that an untreated mental disorder can lead to a more severe, more difficult to treat illness, as well as to the development of co-occurring mental illnesses.[3]

Mental health is crucial to overall health and welfare and should be treated with the same sense of urgency as physical health.[1][2] Children, in particular, are in a state of rapid change and growth during their developmental years.[3] Diagnosis and treatment of mental children disorders must be viewed with these changes in mind.[3] While some problems are short-lived and don't need treatment, others are persistent and very serious, and parents should seek professional help for their children.[3]
